American universities are keeping an eye on your social media! One wrong post and you are out of the Ivy League

US Study Abroad: In today’s era, there is hardly anyone who does not use social media. There are many social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, whose users number in billions. People not only post their pictures on it, but also share their thoughts. However, if you want to take admission in Ivy League institutions of America, then you should be careful, because what is posted from your social media handle will also be considered.
In fact, monitoring of social media posts by universities is emerging as a major concern among candidates applying for admission to Ivy League institutions in America. Ivy League institutions include universities that are known worldwide for their education and social prestige. These include institutions like Harvard University, Yale University, Princeton University and Columbia University, where admission is very difficult.

Social media profiles are being checked during admission

According to Forbes’ report, university admissions officers are monitoring students’ online activity. This trend has created a wave of concern among students seeking admission to these prestigious institutions, as a single wrong post can shatter their dreams of studying in an Ivy League institution. During the review process of a student’s application for admission, his/her social media profiles are also being checked.

Why is social media being monitored?

In today’s era, it is impossible to erase digital footprints. In such a time, the influence of social media during the admission process cannot be underestimated. If someone has posted a wrong or controversial post, it will be difficult for him/her to get admission. These days, while admitting students to Ivy League universities, officials are not only looking at the academic performance of the student, but they also want to see which student can adopt the values of their institution.

What does a student post, what things does he/she share? On the basis of this, it is being decided what kind of character that student will have. Before taking a decision on admission, he/she is being judged on the basis of social media posts. For example, in August this year, a Bangladeshi student who took admission in NIT Silchar in India was sent back to his/her country only because he/she liked and shared an anti-India post on Facebook.

A controversial meme, offensive comment, or even a photo that seems inconsistent with what the student has provided on their application could jeopardize their admission. No matter how well a student applies with a well-written essay and a letter of recommendation, Ivy League institutions may close their doors if their social media presence is controversial.
