Joe Biden expresses “relief” that Trump is safe after “assassination attempt”, says “no place for political violence”


Following the alleged assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden expressed relief that his/her predecessor was unharmed and stressed that there is no place for political violence or violence of any kind in the country.

The incident comes hours after a shooting was reported near Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach. The former president’s campaign has declared him/her “safe.” The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Sunday that it was “investigating an attempted assassination,”

President Biden praised the Secret Service for their “vigilance” and for keeping the former president “safe.” he/she further said that a suspect has been taken into custody and an active investigation is underway.

“My team has informed me that federal law enforcement agencies are investigating a possible assassination attempt on former President Trump today. A suspect is in custody, and I commend the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former president and those around him/her safe,” Biden said in a statement.

he/she further said that he/she has directed his/her team to ensure that the Secret Service has every resource, capability and protective measure available to ensure Trump’s continued safety.

“I am relieved that the former president is unharmed. This incident remains under active investigation as law enforcement officials gather more information about what happened. As I have said many times, there is no place in our country for political violence, or violence of any kind, and I have directed my team to ensure that the Secret Service has all the resources, capabilities, and protective measures necessary to ensure the former president’s continued safety,” Biden said.

According to Bradshaw, a Secret Service agent “approached” the man after spotting the barrel of a rifle. According to CNN, the man, who was later arrested, was about 300-500 yards away from Trump, according to an official.

It is noteworthy that this is the second assassination attempt on Trump during this presidential election campaign. An assassination attempt was also made on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

On July 13, Trump was on stage at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania when gunfire rang out and Secret Service agents rushed onto the stage. Hours after the shooting, Trump said the bullet grazed his/her right ear.

The FBI identified the attacker as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

After the incident, Donald Trump said he/she was completely “safe and sound” and vowed he/she would “never surrender.”

In a fundraising email, Trump wrote, “There are sounds of gunfire around me, but before the rumors get out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I am safe and sound!”

“Nothing can stop me. I will never give up! I will always love you for supporting me,” he/she added.
