Batsmen who scored centuries in their debut and last ODI have a special similarity in their careers

New Delhi. In the history of Test and ODI cricket, many batsmen have scored centuries in their debut or last match, but only a few players have got the opportunity to repeat this feat in both the first and last matches of any format. In the 147-year history of Test cricket, 5 batsmen (criteria is at least two matches) have been able to achieve this feat, which includes Australia’s Greg Chappell, William Ponsford and Reginald Hough, apart from India’s Mohammad Azharuddin and England’s Alastair Cook. In ODI International, the number of batsmen who have done such a feat is even less.

In the history of ODI cricket spanning more than five decades, only two batsmen – England’s Dennis Amiss and West Indies’ Desmond Haynes – have been able to score centuries in their first and last ODI. The special thing is that both of them have been equally successful in both formats, Test and ODI. Both started their ODI career by scoring a century against Australia and both played as openers. Amiss also holds the record of scoring the first century in ODI International and World Cup.
