Among the trio of brothers who have played cricket at the international level, the prominent names are Australia’s Chappell brothers – Ian, Greg and Trevor, while four members each from Pakistan’s Mohammad and Sri Lanka’s Ranatunga families have played for their country. Four brothers of the Mohammed family – Wazir, Hanif, Mushtaq and Sadiq played for Pakistan in international cricket. Similarly, four brothers of the Ranatunga family, Dhammika, Arjun, Nishantha and Sanjeev played for Sri Lanka.

In this community of cricketers, there is a family whose two brothers and two sisters have represented the country at the international level. The matter does not end here. Out of these four siblings, one has played international cricket for two countries and has also been a part of the ODI-T20 World Cup. We are talking about the famous Joyce family of Ireland.

The most famous face of the Joyce family, Edmund Christopher Joyce alias Ed Joyce, has not only played for Ireland and England in international cricket but has also scored six centuries in ODIs. Ed’s younger brother Dominic Ignatius Joyce alias Dom Joyce has also played three ODIs for Ireland. Ed’s elder brother Augustin alias Gus Joyce has also played a first class match. Sisters also did not lag behind brothers in this matter. Ed’s two sisters Isobel Joyce and Cecelia Joyce have also represented Ireland in international cricket. Isobel and Cecelia are twins. The Joyce family is extremely popular in Ireland because of their cricket skills.

Talking about Ed Joyce, who played the most international cricket from the Joyce family. Born in Dublin, Ed has four brothers and four sisters in his/her family. Everyone has been very passionate about cricket. Ed was the first to enter international cricket. Ed, who made an important contribution in Ireland qualifying for the 2007 World Cup, shifted to England for better career and opportunities and played his/her first World Cup (ODI) for this country in 2007. Ed made his/her ODI debut for England against Ireland on 13 June 2006. The interesting thing is that in this ODI he/she was playing for England while his/her younger brother Dom was playing for Ireland. This match had become very interesting because two brothers were playing for different countries. However, both could not make a big contribution in the match. Ed, who opened for England, was out after scoring 10 runs while Dom, who opened as the opener for Ireland, could not even open his/her account.

Ed played three ODI World Cups, out of which he/she was a member of the England team in the 2007 World Cup, while in 2011 and 2015 he/she was a member of his/her native Ireland team. In the 2007 World Cup, Ed scored 152 runs in 5 matches at an average of 30.40, in the 2011 World Cup he/she scored 176 runs in 6 matches at an average of 29.33 and in the 2015 World Cup, he/she scored 246 runs in 6 matches at an average of 41.00. Playing for Ireland, he/she also scored a century against Zimbabwe in the 2015 World Cup.

Scored one century for England and 5 centuries for Ireland in ODIs.
In his/her international career from 2006 to 2018, Ed played 78 ODIs and scored 2622 runs at an average of 38, which included 6 centuries. Of these, he/she scored one century while playing for England and five while playing for Ireland. Talking about both the countries, while playing for England, Ed Joyce scored 471 runs in 17 ODIs at an average of 27.70 (top 107) and while playing for Ireland, he/she scored 2151 runs in 61 ODIs at an average of 41.36 (top 160*). Overall, in 18 T20Is, he/she scored 405 runs (one half-century) at an average of 33.75, which included 1 run in an innings of two matches for England and 404 runs in 16 matches for Ireland. he/she also played the 2012 and 2014 T20 World Cup for Ireland. Scored 33 runs at an average of 16.50 in two matches of 2012 and 93 runs at an average of 31 in three matches of 2014. Ed could never play T20I after the Sylhet match against Netherlands in T20 World Cup 2014. Ed played his/her last international match in the form of a test against Pakistan in May 2018. In this test between Ireland and Pakistan, Ed scored 4 runs in the first innings and 43 runs in the second innings. Pakistan team won the match by 5 wickets.

Both twin sisters had long international careers
The international career of Ed Joyce’s brother Dom Joyce was limited to three ODIs. Right-handed batsman Dom scored 29 runs in three ODIs for Ireland. Sister Isobel played one Test, 79 ODIs and 55 T20 matches for Ireland from 1999 to 2018 as an all-rounder. he/she took 6 wickets in the only test. 995 runs and 66 wickets in 79 ODIs and 944 runs and 33 wickets in 55 T20s are registered in Isobel’s name. Another sister Cecelia was a part of the Ireland team from 2001 to 2018 as an opener. During this period, Cecelia scored 1172 runs with the help of three half-centuries in 57 ODI matches and 659 runs with the help of one half-century in 43 T20Is.
