New Delhi: The initial automotive test of the Indian light tank ‘Zoravar’ has been conducted. The first phase of the developmental field firing trial of the Indian light tank was successful. The field trial has successfully accomplished the desired objectives in desert areas. During the test, the tank hit the target with the expected accuracy. This test was successfully conducted by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Friday.

It is suitable for hilly areas

The Zorawar tank is capable of deployment in high altitude areas such as hilly terrain. Zorawar is being considered as a highly versatile platform for deployment in hilly areas. But, it is not only a great tank for hilly terrain, but it has also shown its effectiveness in desert terrain. During the field trials conducted in the desert, this Indian light tank efficiently accomplished all the intended objectives. The Zorawar tank has performed exceptionally during the trials here.

In the initial phase, the firing performance of the Zorawar tank has been rigorously evaluated. During this evaluation, the tank hit the designated targets with accuracy. Zorawar has been successfully developed by Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), a unit of DRDO, in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro Limited. Several Indian industries including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have contributed to the development of various sub-systems, demonstrating the strength of indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities within the country.

Defense Minister congratulated

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Indian Army and all associated industry partners for the successful tests of the Indian Light Tank. he/she described this achievement as an important milestone towards India’s goal of self-reliance in critical defence systems and technologies. At the same time, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO, Dr. Sameer V. Kamat also congratulated the entire team involved in the project.
