  1. Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary falls on 12 January. This day was declared as National Youth Day by the Government of India in the year 1984.
  2. The childhood name of Swami Vivekananda, one of India’s most popular spiritual leaders, was Narendranath Dutt. he/she was born on 12 January 1863 in a Bengali Kayastha family in Calcutta.
  3. Narendranath’s father Vishwanath Dutt was associated with the legal profession in the Calcutta High Court. While his/her mother Bhuvaneshwari Devi was a housewife.
  4. Swami Vivekananda’s guru was Ramakrishna Paramhansa, who himself was a very famous yogi of his/her time.
  5. After the death of the Guru in 1886, Swami Vivekananda established the Ramakrishna Mission on 1 May 1894. Its headquarters is at Belur near Kolkata. At the center of the establishment of this mission is the propagation of Vedanta philosophy.
  6. Swami Vivekananda gave a speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893, which made him/her very famous. he/she started his/her speech with ‘Sisters and brothers of America…’ which won the hearts of many people.

  8. Swami Vivekananda died on 4 July 1902, reportedly while meditating. his/her disciples believe that he/she had attained Mahasamadhi.
