Svalbard Jobs for Indians: Do you want to work in a place where there is white blanket of snow all around, high mountains and the Northern Lights can be seen at night? Such a place seems no less than heaven. If you want to work at such a place then this is a great opportunity for you. Actually, there is an island named Svalbard above the Arctic Circle in Europe, where one can not only live without a visa but can also work.
Svalbard is a very beautiful archipelago, where there is a blanket of snow for most of the year. This is the reason why people from all corners of the world come to Svalbard. The best thing is that no visa is required to live and work here. In simple language, any Indian can go to Svalbard and get a job. Most of the jobs here are related to the tourism sector, because people from all over the world come here to visit and see the Northern Lights.

Why is visa not required?

Actually, the responsibility of Svalbard lies with the Norwegian government, but it is known for its unique immigration policy. The Svalbard Treaty was signed in 1920, under which citizens of any country can live, work and travel here without any visa or residence permit. Because of this open policy, Svalbard has become the first place of its kind. No matter which country you are a citizen of, just pack your bags and come to Svalbard without the hassle of visas or permits.

However, even though Svalbard operates under its own visa-free policy, to get here you must first go to Norway. This is where things get stuck, as Norway is part of the Schengen Area. A country that is part of the Schengen Area requires a Schengen visa, so you will need to obtain one to come to Norway. Once you get your visa for Norway, reach here and start your journey to Svalbard.

What are the challenges of living in Svalbard?

As you have already been told that Svalbard is present near the Arctic Circle. Because of this it is very cold here. In winter the temperature here goes below -20°C. Also there is darkness for a long time. On the contrary, in summer you will get to see 24 hours of light. It is also difficult to find a house in Svalbard. If somehow it is found, its fare will be very high. If you fall ill here, you may have to go to Norway for treatment.
