Yash Chopra had trouble with Rajesh Khanna’s tantrums, revealed in the book

Yash Chopra and Rajesh Khanna made a hit director-actor duo by working together in films like ‘Ittefaq’ and ‘Daag’. However, they once had a falling out and never worked with each other again. Yasir Usman once wrote a biography on Rajesh Khanna explaining why they never worked together again. In ‘Rajesh Khanna: The Untold Story of India’s First Superstar’, Yasir Usman had revealed that Yash Chopra was his/her he/she was troubled by tantrums, whereas Rajesh Khanna felt that Yash made him/her work very hard.

Disagreement between Rajesh Khanna and Yash Chopra

After rift with Rajesh Khanna, Yash Chopra started working with Amitabh Bachchan in many films like ‘Kabhi Kabhie’, ‘Silsila’. Writer Sagar Sarhadi, who was the writer of many of Yash Chopra’s films and was also close to Rajesh Khanna, had revealed this in his/her biography.

Sagar Sarhadi, the writer of these films, was close to Rajesh Khanna and he/she had told the extent of this rift. The book says, ‘Sagar remembers that he/she once asked Yash Chopra why he/she did not sign Rajesh again after making a successful film like ‘Daag’.

Yash Chopra had replied, ‘Man, it is very difficult to work with him/her… he/she calls his/her makers to his/her house and keeps drinking till late night. The producers have to stay there until he/she wants to sleep himself. Then if he/she was going to Madras for shooting, the producers had to drop him/her to the airport and receive him/her when he/she returned. I can’t do this. I can’t tolerate these superstar tantrums every day.

Rajesh Khanna became insecure about Amitabh Bachchan

The book also revealed the reasons behind Rajesh Khanna not working with Yash Chopra and he/she also said that he/she is not a good director. It has been written in the book quoting Sagar that after ‘Namak Haraam’ he/she had become very insecure about Amitabh.

I asked him/her, ‘Dude, why aren’t you doing films with Yash Chopra?’ he/she angrily replied, ‘Yash is not a good director. he/she makes me work hard from morning till evening. I can’t work that hard.’ I started laughing at his/her answer.
