Yamuna Sangarasivam is a Sri Lankan-American dancer and writer. he/she was born and raised in Sri Lanka. his/her father was of Singapore-Ceylon origin, while his/her mother was from Malaysia. When she was 6 years old, she learned classical dance Bharatnatyam due to her interest in dance. She also learned Odissi and stayed in Odisha for her studies.

Yamuna has MPhil degree

Yamuna Sangarasivam also studied Western classical piano and Tamil Carnatic language. After this she settled in the US with her family. She was 9 years old at that time. Before going to America, she also lived in Sri Lanka and Borneo for some time. Earned a Bachelor of Arts in Musicology and Piano at the University of Minnesota in 1990. Earned a master’s degree in Anthropology at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1992. Did MPhil in the same subject in the year 2000.
