WUC urges US President to address Uyghur genocide by China

The World Uyghur Congress has urged newly elected US President Donald Trump to prioritize the issue of Uyghur genocide by the Chinese government.

“We congratulate Mr. Donald Trump, President-elect of the United States of America,” said Turgunjan Alawdun, President of WUC. We will work with the new administration to ensure that the voices of Uyghurs are heard. We are grateful to the Biden administration for consistently raising the Uyghur issue and implementing concrete measures to address it.

Earlier, during Trump’s previous tenure, Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo had described the atrocities as genocide. Later, under the Biden administration, the persecution against Uyghurs was officially declared genocide.

During Biden’s administration, the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act was enacted which bans the entry of products made by companies that support the forced labor of Uyghurs. So far 78 entities have been added to the list of banned companies. The administration imposed sanctions against Chinese entities linked to forced labor by Uyghurs.

In a post on Twitter, WUC said, “WUC congratulates US President-elect Mr. Donald Trump and urges the new administration to meaningfully address the Uyghur genocide. WUC thanked the Biden administration. For its policy-based approach to the Uyghur genocide.”

WUC urges the new administration to condemn all forms of atrocities committed by China against Uyghurs through the G7, NATO and the UN.

The growing evidence of the horrific suffering faced by Uyghurs in East Turkistan makes it clear that urgent action is needed. Because of this, the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is calling on the new administration to take stronger action against the Uyghur genocide. WUC stands ready to work with the new administration to ensure that ending the Uyghur genocide is a top priority.
