New Delhi. The BCCI is organizing the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for the first time on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Everyone was waiting for when the league would start and where it would be held. Now this thing has been revealed. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told news agency PTI that the Women’s Premier League will be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26. Dhumal also confirmed that the player auction for the league will be held in Mumbai on February 13, a day after India’s T20 World Cup match against Pakistan. All the matches of the league will be held at Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. The first match is expected to be played between the franchise teams of Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians.
The BCCI is busy preparing for the Women’s Premier League. The board sold the broadcast rights of this league for Rs 951 crore after getting Rs 4669.99 crore from the bid for 5 teams. With this, the Women’s Premier League became the second largest T20 league in the world after the IPL. Three franchises of IPL have been successful in buying teams in this league. Apart from Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, Capri Global Holdings (Lucknow) and Adani Sportline have bought franchise teams for the Women’s Premier League.
1500 players got registered
About 1500 players have registered for the Women’s Premier League. The final list of players is expected to be released in the next few days. In the auction to be held on February 13, each franchise will be able to spend Rs 12 crore on players. Teams will have to bid for a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 players.

A total of 22 matches will be played in the Women’s Premier League. The team on top of the point table will qualify for the final. There will be a knockout match between the second and third place team to make it to the title match.
