Wow! For the first time, brother and sister are commanding two warships of the Indian Navy.

New Delhi : This is the first time in the Indian Navy that a brother-sister pair is commanding different warships together. This pair is Commander Prerna Devasthali and Commander Ishaan Devasthali. Commander Prerna Devasthali last year became the first woman officer to command a warship in the Indian Navy. She is currently commanding the fast attack craft INS Trinket. his/her brother, Commander Ishan Devasthali, has now been given command of INS Vibhuti, a Veer-class missile ship of the Indian Navy. This is a historic event as never before have a brother-sister commanded a warship together in the Indian Navy. Have handled it. This coincidence also shows the increasing role and contribution of women in the Navy.

Commander Prerna Devasthali was given command of INS Trinket last year. The ship is part of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy and is deployed in the Bay of Bengal. Commander Ishan Devasthali has recently been handed over the command of INS Vibhuti. The ship is part of the Western Fleet of the Indian Navy and is deployed in the Arabian Sea.

Both brother and sister are commanding their respective warships under the Western Command. Both are an inspiration to their families and are dedicated to serving the country.

INS Vibhuti was recently part of the steam past given to President Draupadi Murmu off the coast of Goa in the Arabian Sea. President Draupadi Murmu met Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K on 7 November. Visited INS Vikrant with Tripathi and witnessed a demonstration of naval operations conducted by the Indian Navy. In his/her address, President Murmu had praised the capabilities and strategic reach of the Indian Navy.

President Murmu had said, ‘Indian Naval units are deployed for long periods in wide areas, demonstrating their capabilities and strategic effectiveness. Your positive, proactive and prompt actions have saved countless lives at sea. It was a special moment for me when the President of Bulgaria called to express his/her gratitude for rescuing the Bulgarian crew from a hijacked ship earlier this year.’
