World Hindi Day: How many people speak Hindi across the world? What has happened to the language among the new generation?

Today on January 10, in many corners of the world hindi day Is being celebrated. On this day in the year 2006, the Government of India had announced to celebrate World Hindi Day. Its objective is to propagate the Hindi language. The one who started it was former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Talking about the current year, the theme of World Hindi Day 2025 is – ‘Hindi: The global voice of unity and cultural pride.’ But along with this, it also becomes important to know that what is the condition of this language among the new generation of the country where Hindi language has been the pride? How many people speak Hindi in the world?

Around 50 crore people around the world speak Hindi. Even after this, the inclination of the youth towards Hindi seems to be decreasing. Students are showing more interest in employable languages. Be it college or university, 50 percent of the students are interested in Hindi language, while others choose employable subjects.

Principal of Government Post Graduate College, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Prof RK Gupta said that when a third year student was asked to write an application for not coming to class regularly, she could not write the application in Hindi. The father standing nearby was a third class pass. he/she wrote the application in pure Hindi. Whereas, the student was talking in English.

50 percent students are choosing the language that provides employment. Out of 73 BA students in the college, 33 chose Hindi subject, while 40 chose other subjects.

Only 5 students are doing PhD in last 7 years

Dr. Manju Shukla, HOD of Government Post Graduate College Hindi Department, said that since 2017, only 7 students have come to her to do PhD. That means in seven years only 7 students came to him/her to do PhD in Hindi language. Of these, 2 students have completed their PhD, while 5 are currently doing it.

he/she said that there is a great need to encourage Hindi language. Because there is emphasis on learning English since childhood. People have developed the mentality that if they want a job then it is very important to know English language.

Promoting Hindi through street drama

Principal of Degree College, Prof. RK Gupta said that he/she organizes street plays at various places to promote Hindi language. So that people can understand the importance of Hindi language. Hindi is not just a language, it is a great medium to express your feelings. There will be only one word to express emotion in English. But in Hindi there is different vocabulary to express any emotion, which expresses our feeling in one word.
