Human rights activist and defender Fazal Ur Rehman Afridi on Wednesday (local time) criticized the deteriorating human rights scenario of Bangladesh due to the rise of Islamic extremism in the country in recent times.
In his/her initial comments during a side event in the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, “Human rights violations and the rise of Islamic extremism in Bangladesh,” titled “title, Afridi warned of” meteorite growth “in extremist forces in the last seven months,” pluralism, leaving a devastating impression on the lives of millions of people who believe in tolerance and multi -existence. “
Afridi portrayed a serious picture of the country’s security and judicial systems, stating that the security culture of the country came under the siege under the new interim rule under the leadership of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, the authorities have been asked to remain silent against the abusers of rights.
“County’s security culture has been confiscated and the Center is silent by abusers of severe rights,” said Afridi.
he/she highlighted the collapse of optimism around Yunus’s reform promises from 5 August, saying, “The nation has seen more repression, the rule of law, religious harassment, minorities, and a jungle rule-content judiciary.”
he/she pointed out to increase the violence, including “exceptional murders, targeted attacks, arson and large -scale arbitrariness of opposition activists, run by Islamists.
The worker also reduced the stifting of freedom of the press, given, “Local media has been strangled, and any journalist who dare to throw light on the real situation is being branded as a conspirator and harassed by the armed justice system.”
Afridi’s comment underlines an intensive crisis in Bangladesh, which increases the untouchable increase of extremism and its toll over democratic values and minority rights.
Meanwhile, another rights activist and human rights lawyer, Rehan Rashid, said, “Since August 8, under Dr. Younus, Bangladesh has entered the period of endangering the decline of human rights.”
Along with minority attacks, Rehan also focused on the increasing enmity faced by transgender and LGBTQ communities.
Rehan, citing his/her investigation in the violation of rights, said, “Political opposition, journalists were silenced and detained or hidden. The freedom of political place and expression is shrinking.”
Calling the world’s blind place towards Younus’s global stature, Rehan reminded the world that in the world, Dr. Yunus takes a global image as a great prize winner, a reformer and a person, who obscured the truth.
On the release of the judiciary militants and weapons, Rehan said, “Lawyers and judges have been attacked. The judiciary has been seen rapidly under executive pressure. Faith in the justice system is failing. The mob violence continues; sexual violence continues; sexual violence skys touch. Hundreds of convicts who were charged with terrorism.”
