Work permit expired in Canada, how to do jobs now? Know what options do students have

Canada Work Permit News: Foreign students in Canada are allowed jobs after the course is over. For this, the government gives them ‘Post-Graduate Work Permit’ (PGWP). One to three years can be worked in Canada through PGWP. However, students are not allowed jobs after it expires. But if someone’s PGWP is going to expire soon, he/she can work by getting a ‘Temporary Foreign Workers Program’ (TFWP) work permit.
The TFWP work permit is given to work for any one company. This means that a foreign worker can work in Canada, but he/she will be allowed only in a company. Foreign nationals get TFWP work permits for almost all types of work in Canada. To achieve this, the company first has to get positive or neutral ‘Labor Market Impact Assessment’ (LMIA) through ‘Employment and Social Development Canada’ (ESDC).

What is LMIA?

LMIA is a kind of document, through which it is proved that there are neither Canadian citizens nor permanent residents in Canada to do a particular job, due to which foreign workers are being hired. Only companies are allowed to file LMIA. The result of LMIA should be neutral or positive, which means ESDC has given the green signal to hire foreign workers. Applications can be made for work permits when LMIA is approved.

On what conditions will the work permit be available?

To get TFWP work permits, foreign workers have to fulfill certain conditions, which are the following:

  • Getting a job offer from a Canadian company.
  • The company is ready to get the LMIA certificate.
  • Getting positive or neutral LMIA from ESDC.
  • The job should not be such that LMIA cannot be released.

Once the LMIA certificate is received, the company should also offer the job offer to the foreign workers. After this the worker can start applying for TFWP work permit. Let us know how to apply for work permits.
