In 2018, the Supreme Court of India abolished Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code and removed adultery from the category of crime. The Supreme Court had called it an outdated and patriarchal law and said that it violates the autonomy and dignity of women. However, adultery now seems to be the biggest reason for exploitation of husbands and their murders, where wives conspire with their lovers to commit heinous crimes, and it is also becoming the cause of suicide of many married men. .

This company of Gurugram prepared the report
Gurugram-based organization ‘Ekam Nyay Foundation’ has prepared an important report on cases of murder of husbands by their wives, cases of male suicide due to false allegations, cruelty and domestic violence. This research is based on incidents reported in the media. Ekam Nyay Foundation says the actual number of incidents is much higher.

The report documented 306 cases of murder of husbands by wives or female partners in India in 2023. In 213 of these cases, husbands were murdered by their wives and their lovers. Mainly due to such reasons where the husband objects to the relationship after marriage, catches the wife red-handed, or the husband tries to stop the relationship after marriage and other major reasons include financial disputes between the couple, domestic fights and suspicions. Are.

many heinous incidents involved
Ekam Nyay Foundation has documented several gruesome murders, where husbands were cut into pieces, poisoned, stabbed, strangled or beaten to death by multiple people. In many such cases the wives were not initially caught because they had destroyed all the evidence or because the husbands’ murders were presented as suicides to mislead the public and the police. In all these cases the maximum age of the victims was 75 years and minimum 18 years.

The report also states that some of these cases have been extremely heinous, yet such murders have never received attention from the mainstream media, the government, or the general public, or it has not been considered necessary to talk about. The silence of the media and the government on such serious matters and the ignorance among the general public about these crimes committed by wives creates a perception in the society that only men are violent.

Different cases came to light in the report
The report also documented 517 cases of male suicide, where mental cruelty, false allegations, wife’s extramarital affair, and domestic violence were found to be the major reasons. The study recorded 235 suicides due to mental cruelty, 47 due to adultery, 45 due to false accusations, and 22 due to domestic violence. Additionally, 168 suicides due to suspicion, abandonment, fraud or financial disputes have also been included.

Husband is also suffering pain
Speaking to the media, Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, Founder of Ekam Nyay Foundation said that our endeavor through Ekam Nyay Foundation is to highlight the sufferings and problems faced by men and their families due to legal and social disregard in the society . This research report also tries to fill the gap of data that can establish that today men are also victims of violence and abuse at the hands of women and the government of our country should provide relief and justice to such victimized men and their families. There is a need to make laws on the basis of gender neutrality.

Adultery by wives, and violence perpetrated by female partners, can have a serious impact on any man, and men are its silent victims. There is unrest in the society due to misuse of laws, the biggest victims of which today are men. Many men are committing suicide in India because of this. Top leaders, MLAs and MPs of our country should pay attention to this because men are also citizens of this country and their rights should also be protected by law.

What do NCRB data say?
According to NCRB, 1,22,724 men committed suicide in 2022, while 48,172 women did so. The number of married men who committed suicide in 2022 was 82,000. The most common reason for male suicide was family problems, which claimed 38,904 lives. 5,891 men committed suicide due to marital problems.
