Will we be successful? Know what are the challenges of Indian diplomacy regarding the path of peace between Ukraine and Russia

New Delhi: After PM Modi’s return from Ukraine tour, a round of rapid diplomatic activities has been seen. Two days ago, PM Modi spoke to US President Joe Biden over the phone and the Ukraine-Russia conflict was also discussed in this conversation, a day after this, PM Modi also spoke to President Putin over the phone, an important part of this conversation was also around his/her visit to Ukraine. PM Modi had said in a conversation with Ukrainian President Zelensky that he/she has come to Kiev with a message of peace. In such a situation, India is being looked at in view of a peaceful solution to this conflict. It is worth noting that in this entire matter, Russia was never openly criticized by India. Trying for peace while managing the closeness of India’s relations with Russia has its own challenges.Indian diplomacy is accustomed to facing difficult challenges
International affairs expert Rajiv Dogra says that India’s role is not only important in the current circumstances, but it is also full of many challenges under diplomacy, although Indian diplomacy is used to it. he/she says that since 1947, Indian diplomacy is used to facing difficult challenges. From its policy of non-alignment to colonialism and apartheid, Indian foreign policy has a rich history. The way this war is going on between Russia and Ukraine for two and a half years, if it happens on the power plant in Kursk from Ukraine’s side, then there can be massive destruction on a large scale. IAEA Chief Rafael Grassi has recently warned Ukraine that this destruction can be like Chernobyl. Along with this, the prices of everything from food stock to energy, gas oil are linked to this conflict. In such a situation, PM Modi has tried to show a balanced approach by going first to Russia and then to Ukraine that he/she is ready to help both the countries move in the direction of peace and dialogue. This diplomatic stance is being watched closely across the world.

India will have to take steps cautiously
Dogra further says that whether you call it peace keeping or presence as a helper, the role of the third country in this is only that it keeps itself behind and gives suggestions to both the countries involved in the conflict, it is up to both the parties whether they accept it or not. The role of the third country in the peace efforts is limited to this only. It is true that the western world, especially America, has taken a positive position regarding the PM’s visit to Ukraine, the press note issued by the US government also said that they appreciate such efforts of any country, in which an attempt has been made to understand Ukraine’s stance, in fact, before this, after the PM’s Moscow visit in July, a lot of discomfort was seen from America’s side. However, India will have to move cautiously in this direction because it also has to maintain the sensitivity of its close relations with Russia and this is a challenge before India.

The world is looking at this effort of India
Russian affairs expert Amitabh Singh says that efforts towards peace are always a very sensitive and delicate matter, in such a situation India is requesting both the countries to come to the negotiating table, but the world is also watching the efforts being made with Russia carefully because India has always had close relations with Russia. In such a situation, efforts are being made by Indian diplomacy to bring the two countries a little closer apart from their current opposite positions. he/she further says that it is true that India has always believed that the path of conflict should be through diplomacy and negotiations or sovereignty and integrity should be respected, but in this case India has really increased its role. However, experts also say that the Western world and Zelensky will have to understand that their peace proposal presented in Switzerland will not matter much because the presence of all parties is such a condition of the peace proposal, on which most of the countries of the world, especially the Global South, are unanimous.
