Will Rohit open again, Shastri-Gavaskar raised questions, Ponting has a different trick

New Delhi. After India lost the Adelaide Test, questions are being raised on the team combination. From Sunil Gavaskar to Ravi Shastri believe that Rohit Sharma should return to the opening. Shastri even says that Rohit was not as active on the field as he/she used to be. Rohit Sharma came to bat at number six in the second test match played against Australia in Adelaide. In place of Rohit, KL Rahul had opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rohit played innings of 3 and 6 runs in the match.

Ravi Shastri told ‘Star Sports’, ‘I want to see him/her (Rohit) at the top. This is where they can become aggressive. Looking at his/her body language it seemed that he/she was a little calm. he/she did not score runs. But there is another thing more important than this. I don’t think he/she was very active on the field. I wanted to see him/her more engaged and more excited about the match.

India won the first test by 295 runs in Rohit’s absence. In this match played in Perth, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul had opened. The same combination was continued in the Adelaide Test. Before the Adelaide Test, Rohit Sharma said that he/she does not want to tamper with the combination. However, Rohit admitted that it was not an easy decision for him/her personally. Rohit, who batted in the middle order for the first time since 2018, said, ‘Personally it was not easy. But it matters to the team.

Sunil Gavaskar said on ‘Sports Tak’, ‘he/she (Rohit) should return to his/her regular place. We should remember why Rahul started the innings. he/she did this because Rohit Sharma was not available for the first test. he/she said, ‘I can understand why he/she was kept as an opening batsman in the second Test. he/she made a partnership of more than 200 runs with Jaiswal. But now when he/she could not score runs in the second Test, I think Rahul should go back to number five or number six and Rohit Sharma should open the innings. If Rohit scores fast runs in the beginning, he/she can also score a big century later.

Australian captain Ricky Ponting’s thinking is different from Shastri and Gavaskar. However, his/her thinking could also be Australia’s mind game. Ricky Ponting said during the commentary that he/she feels that Rohit Sharma will now bat at number six only.
