Will Ladakh get constitutional protection? Sonam Wangchuk’s foot march reached Delhi, know what happened

New Delhi: Ladakh’s climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has reached Delhi. he/she has come to Delhi on foot from Leh with more than 150 people. The main objective of this journey was to make people aware about environmental protection. On reaching Delhi, Wangchuk and his/her colleagues were stopped for some time. Sonam Wangchuk told that after coming to Delhi, she had to face some problems, but due to this her message reached more people faster. he/she said, ‘We faced some problems after reaching Delhi. But whatever happens, happens for good. We are happy that our message of environmental protection reached more people. Wangchuk said that he/she has given a memorandum to the government. In this he/she has demanded that Ladakh should be given protection under the Constitution.

Wangchuk wants Ladakh to get protection under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. This will give rights to the local people in the management and governance of Ladakh. he/she has also met the Home Ministry. According to Wangchuk, the Home Ministry has assured him/her that he/she will soon meet the Prime Minister, President or Home Minister. Wangchuk said, ‘I have been assured by the Home Ministry that in the coming days I will get a chance to meet the top leadership of India – the Prime Minister or the President or the Home Minister.’ he/she further said, ‘I have demanded restoration of democracy through statehood and Schedule 6.’

What is the matter?

The pilgrims who set out from Leh on September 1 completed the entire route on foot except in the election-bound state of Haryana. They boarded buses in Haryana. They were detained at Delhi’s Singhu border on Monday night and taken to different police stations, where they started an indefinite fast. The march was organized by the ‘Leh Apex Body’ (LAB) in collaboration with the ‘Kargil Democratic Alliance’, which for the last four years has been campaigning for statehood for Ladakh, establishment of Public Service Commission for Ladakh and early recruitment process. And is agitating for separate Lok Sabha seats in Leh and Kargil districts and other demands.
