Will it be difficult for Indians to get IT jobs in America? Top companies distance themselves from H-1B visa sponsorship

US H-1B visa cuts: America’s big tech companies have sponsored a small number of H-1B visas this year. This information has been received from the data released through United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Through this visa, most people from India go to America to work in the tech sector. According to USCIS data, companies like Google, Amazon, Infosys and IBM have sponsored less H-1B visas this time than before.
Through H-1B visa, foreign students and professionals including Indians who have gone to study in America get the opportunity to work. This visa is available for three years and it can also be extended for another three years. Historically, it has been seen that Indians have been at the forefront in obtaining H-1B visas. This year’s data shows that almost all big companies have reduced sponsorship.

Who are the top H-1B sponsors in 2024?

Nearly all of the top 15 H-1B sponsors approved fewer visas for fiscal year 2024, which runs from Oct. 1, 2023, to Sept. 30, 2024, USCIS data shows. In fiscal year 2023, Indians got 72.3% of the total 386,000 H-1B visas, while Chinese nationals got just 11.7% of the visas. The top H-1B sponsors of 2024 are:

Amazon has filed 478% more H-1B visa applications, while Meta and Google have seen visa applications increase by 244% and 137% respectively.
