Every year 65 thousand H-1B visas are issued, while 20 thousand additional visas are for those who have received higher education from American universities.

Donald Trump told the New York Post, “I have a lot of H-1B visa people working on my properties. I believe in H-1B. I’ve used it many times. It’s a good program.” Earlier on Friday, Elon Musk had talked about defending the visa program on social media. In fact, right-wing activists had raised questions over Trump appointing Indian-American Sriram Krishnan as an advisor on Artificial Intelligence. he/she said that this will affect immigration.

Divide among Trump supporters over H-1B visa

Trump’s support for the H-1B program has divided his/her supporters. People like Steve Bannon have criticized the reliance on foreign workers in the technology sector. They allege that this program is reducing the salaries of Americans. Bannon has also criticized Elon Musk for supporting Visa. he/she compared H-1B visa holders to bonded labor exploited by big tech companies.

Elon Musk previously had an H-1B visa. his/her company Tesla secured 724 H-1B visas this year. Responding to the criticism, Elon Musk said that this program is necessary to maintain America’s competitiveness. “Attracting skilled engineers from abroad is essential for America to keep winning,” he/she posted on his/her social media platform X.
