Will Chandrachud try his/her hand in politics now? Former CJI told his/her plan, know what he/she said

New Delhi: Former Chief Justice of the country DY Chandrachud has forbidden retired judges from joining politics. he/she believes that even after retirement, judges are considered the guardians of the law. Therefore, they should not do anything that would raise questions on the impartiality of the judicial system. Speaking at a TV channel’s conclave, Justice Chandrachud said that the society continues to see judges as judges even after retirement. Therefore, the society has the same expectations from them as it has from a judge. Even if they are not in office. he/she said that the society sees you as a judge even after leaving the post. Therefore, things that are OK for ordinary citizens, society expects will not be OK for judges, even if they are not in office.

Chandrachud was Chief Justice for two years

Justice Chandrachud served as the Chief Justice of the country for two years. he/she retired earlier this month. he/she said that it is for every judge to decide for himself how his/her decisions after retirement will affect the work done by him/her as a judge. If a judge becomes involved in politics soon after retirement, it may give the impression that his/her judicial work was influenced by his/her politics. he/she said that it is for every judge to decide how any decision taken by him/her after retirement will affect the work done by him/her as a judge. If a judge becomes involved in politics soon after retirement, this may give rise to an impression about the extent to which his/her judicial work was influenced by the politics he/she pursued.

Society looks at judges in a different light

Justice Chandrachud also highlighted the role of the judicial institution. he/she said that whatever a former judge does, his/her behavior and lifestyle is linked to the faith of the society in the judicial institution. he/she said that society expects a high standard from judges. Therefore, they should not do anything that would cast doubt on the work done by them. It is very important to maintain uniformity and integrity of the judicial system. he/she said, “Society expects a high standard from you. So you should not do anything that casts doubt on the work you have done. The uniformity and integrity of the judicial system must be maintained.

Justice Chandrachud also accepted that judges are also private citizens and they have the same rights as any other citizen. But society expects a high level of behavior from them. he/she suggested that there should be a consensus within the judiciary on what is acceptable and what is not. he/she said this consensus has not yet developed. he/she also suggested that the sitting judges could discuss with the retired judges and decide what would be appropriate for the retired judges.
