More than 200,000 people have lost their jobs due to the decision of tech companies.
30 to 40 percent of Indian IT professionals have lost their jobs in America.
The sociologist said- these decisions of the companies should not be kept silent, but should be challenged.
New Delhi. The world’s leading tech companies, including Google, Twitter, Amazon, have fired thousands of employees from their jobs after rapid retrenchment. Citing the fear of business being affected due to the fear of recession, trying to reduce expenses, these companies made thousands of youth unemployed in one stroke. It is surprising that the media and society remained silent on the decision of these companies and only lamented seeing the news but did not protest. Famous sociologist Shiv Vishwanathan has expressed deep concern over this silence.
Moneycontrol In the report published in, he said that sometimes such news are poignant which the media cannot catch properly. Disappointing reports like retrenchment are presented only as news. News related to the recent layoffs in the corporate world was presented as if there was a gloomy weather report.

Why this silence on retrenchment?
Sociologist Shiv Viswanathan said, “The media’s reporting on the layoffs seems to hide behind a veil of anxiety, grief and shame. However, some people on social media immediately tried to protest and set things right by forming a community, which seemed to have got support from somewhere in this hour of grief.

Many people are still surprised by this decision of corporate giants like Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Amazon. We cannot believe that these organizations can create an epidemic of nightmares where more than 200,000 people lose their jobs because of one of their decisions. We report this as if the company were a tree dropping its leaves in autumn. It seems almost natural and moral criticism is muted. But what hurts the most is when the media keeps a stoic silence on the tragedy of retrenchment.
Time to challenge the decisions of tech companies
Sociologist Shiv Viswanathan said, “A friend of mine said that we should protest the old fashioned way. He insisted that we should hold a big demonstration in front of Microsoft and Amazon to challenge their decision. Because there is no one to listen to the story of 200,000 victims who have lost their jobs and are forced to move from one city to another in search of jobs.
According to insider reports, 30 to 40 percent of Indian IT professionals were employed in layoffs in tech companies in the US. What bothers these people the most is not only the fear of job loss but also the worry of leaving the country after the visa expires. Many of them have H1-B or L-1 visas and the need to find another job soon is troubling them.

Didn’t lose job, dreams were also broken
No one asks about the people who lost their jobs in layoffs, what will happen to these men and women and what will happen to the dreams they used to have with their families? The situation becomes such that the aggrieved families have to withdraw their children from the school and reduce the budget. Apart from this, one also has to face the stigma of unemployment and failure. Corporate companies justify their decision citing compulsion and are acquitted by giving only service package i.e. compensation to the victim employees.
Did not question the ethics of these companies on the issue of retrenchment. However, now this question of indifference and silence has to be challenged. Corporate arbitrariness cannot be silenced, we need a new ethic to challenge it.”
