Illinois Tech President Raj Ekambadi explained two reasons why Indian students come to America in large numbers to study. Ekambadi said, “First is America’s approach to education. The quality of Indian students is much better. About 60 percent of Indian students, or about 2 lakh, are pursuing graduate programs in America. Our undergraduate level in India is The education is good and most of these students are studying in STEM field. Because of this, it is a natural match for Indian students to get admission.

Ekabandi further said, “The second reason is related to the American perspective. When you think about the two major countries, they are China and India. 60 percent of the international students studying in the US come from these two countries. India and the US government have had very strong relations over the years and that has not been the case with China. That is actually the reason for this disparity.”
