If we talk about the year 1956, then there used to be only two dhabas at that time. The famous saint of the district, Baba Kalinath had advised both the dhabas not to sell non-veg. The people running the dhabas say that Baba Kalinath used to say that vegetarian food is the best food. According to him/her, the shop of anyone who cooks or sells non-vegetarian food will be closed. On his/her orders, even today, non-vegetarian food is not sold at the dhabas.

The first Dhaba in Murthal was started by Sitaram, a resident of Murthal village, around 1950. Then the second Dhaba was opened in 1956 by Prakash Singh, father of Amrik-Sukhdev. At that time, Saint Baba Kalinath of village Malikpur was famous everywhere due to his/her blessings and miracles. Baba called Prakash and advised him/her to make vegetarian food at the Dhaba. he/she said that whoever sells non-vegetarian food at this place will be ruined.

Between 70 and 80, Baba went away somewhere and later his/her whereabouts were not known. But even today, people cook only vegetarian food in dhabas as per Baba’s instructions. It is said that two dhaba operators even started selling non-vegetarian food, but after a month their shop was shut down and the other dhaba incurred huge losses.
