Why is Gautam Gambhir giving importance to Sundar instead of Ashwin? Harbhajan Singh cleared

New DelhiGreat spinner Harbhajan Singh says that no one can take away the ‘brilliant achievements’ of Ravichandran Ashwin but the Indian team management is preparing Washington Sundar for the future. With 536 wickets, Ashwin is second for India after Anil Kumble’s 619 Test wickets. But it may take time for him/her to take the next 84 wickets as young Washington has become India’s first-choice off-break bowler during Gautam Gambhir’s tenure.

When Harbhajan Singh was asked whether he/she sees Ashwin’s young Tamil Nadu teammate playing the role of lead spinner? So he/she said, “I think this is the future plan of the team management and selectors. Ravichandran Ashwin has performed brilliantly in his/her career while playing for India. But the management has its eyes on Sundar.”

Harbhajan further said, “But now Ashwin is at that stage of age. his/her age is 38 years, hence the team has kept Washington Sundar with them because whenever R Ashwin retires, Sundar will be with him/her. The team feels they have to prepare Washington, so I think they’re working on that path.

Former spinner Ashwin has taken more than 400 Test and 700 international wickets. Whereas, if we talk about Washington Sundar, he/she has played 7 test matches for India so far. So far he/she has taken 24 wickets in 7 test matches. he/she also performs amazingly with the bat. In 7 matches he/she has scored 387 runs at an average of 48. he/she was played in the first test against Australia.
