Why did this beautiful country of Europe become ‘irritated’ with the English language? Preparation to ban its use in universities

Netherlands laws against English: The European country Netherlands is known for tulips, canals, windmills, cheese and bicycles. The beautiful tulip gardens and small boats moving in the canals will make you feel that you have come to paradise. The more beautiful the Netherlands is, the better its universities are. Because of this, students from all over the world come to study in the Netherlands. Indians are also studying in this European country. The number of Indian students is around 3500.
However, the Netherlands is now preparing to stop foreign students from studying here. The reason for this is that foreign students mostly go to study in such countries where they are taught in English. But now the Netherlands has started getting ‘irritated’ with the English language itself, that is why preparations are being made to bring a law. Actually, the government is planning to reduce the use of English language in universities. This is being done by the government so that the increasing number of foreign students can be reduced.

Preparation to make Dutch the main language

“I want the Dutch language to become the main language again,” Dutch Education Minister Eppo Bruins told parliament. he/she said, “The number of international students has increased significantly in the last few years.” he/she also mentioned the lack of accommodation for students and crowded lecture halls. The government feels that if more students start coming to the country, a housing crisis may arise, due to which people will face shortage of accommodation and house rents will skyrocket.

Impact will be visible on technology sector

The purpose of this new government law is to reduce the number of bachelor degree programs taught in English to one-third of all courses. Even before this, the Government of Netherlands had made a similar proposal. At that time people had expressed concern that this would lead to a shortage of international talent in areas like technology. To establish itself in the technology sector, the Netherlands is dependent on foreign talent, who are coming to work here from all over the world.

How many foreign students are studying in the Netherlands?

According to a report last year by the Dutch Statistics Agency (CBS), about 1,23,000 foreign students are studying in the country. This is 15 percent of the total students studying in the university. According to CBS, more than three-quarters of these students are from other European countries. Let us tell you that the new cabinet of the Netherlands, which took oath in July this year, wants to implement the country’s strictest anti-migration policies so far.
