Why did Rashid Khan stay away from Tests? The reason is revealed, the board is also supporting him/her


New Delhi. Afghanistan cricket’s ‘poster boy’ Rashid Khan will not play Test cricket in the near future. he/she has taken this decision to give rest to his/her back. Rashid underwent back surgery last year. A source in the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said that Rashid and the team management have mutually decided to take a break from the long format of cricket in view of his/her back problem. Earlier this week, he/she was not selected in the starting team for the only Test against New Zealand to be held in Greater Noida from September 9.

Rashid Khan underwent back surgery after the ODI World Cup held in India in October-November. And he/she was out of the game for four months after that. he/she was recently a part of the T20 World Cup held in America and West Indies, where he/she captained Afghanistan and led the team to the semi-finals. 25-year-old Rashid recently played three matches in the Shpageeza T20 League in Kabul and took a total of six wickets.

The source said, ‘Rashid’s plan after the surgery was to gradually increase his/her workload. Not playing in the long format for the next six months to one year was also part of the plan. In Tests, he/she will have to bowl from one end and his/her back is not ready for such workload. he/she should be available for the ODI series against South Africa next month.’

Rashid has played five Tests, 103 ODIs and 93 T20 matches for Afghanistan. he/she also suffered a hamstring injury during ‘The Hundred’ in the US earlier this month. The Afghanistan team is already in Greater Noida, which is its home ground, and has started preparing for the Test against New Zealand.
