Why did China get the sixth Dalai Lama killed on the way… Why did it get angry at India over the name of the peak of Arunachal?


New Delhi: China never desists from its antics. China and India have reached ‘some consensus’ on disengagement of troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. But, China has once again claimed Arunachal Pradesh. In fact, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Thursday expressed displeasure over a group of Indian mountaineers naming an unnamed peak in Arunachal Pradesh after the Sixth Dalai Lama. Speaking at a media briefing in Beijing, Lin said that the creation of so-called ‘Arunachal Pradesh’ in Chinese territory is illegal and invalid. After whom is the peak of Arunachal named?

China’s comment came after the expedition by a team of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) under the Defense Ministry. A team led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, director of the institute, climbed an unnamed and uncharted peak 20,942 feet (6,383 m) high in the Gorichen massif in the Mon Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh. It was decided to name this peak after the sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso. Tsangyang was born in 1682 in the Mon Tawang region.

Why is the peak named after the 6th Dalai Lama?

According to a Defense Ministry press release, the peak is named after the Dalai Lama. Behind this is Lama’s incomparable contribution towards the intellectual and Monpa community. The Chinese spokesperson has said that I am not aware of the special naming of the peak. “I should say more broadly that the Jangnan area is Chinese territory… China has had a continuous presence there,” he/she said.

China has repeatedly made territorial claims on Arunachal

China considers Arunachal Pradesh as part of South Tibet. It has been renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh since 2017 to emphasize territorial claims by describing the area as ‘inherently part of China’s territory’]which it calls Jangnan.

India has always said that there is no change in reality

India has vehemently rejected these claims on Arunachal Pradesh. There have been several occasions when New Delhi has rejected Beijing’s move to rename the region, saying it has not changed the reality. Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh have been a part of India for centuries.

When the Dalai Lama was kidnapped by a Mongol general

The sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, was born in Mon Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh in 1682. he/she was enthroned as the sixth Dalai Lama in 1697 at the age of 14. Tsangyang Gyatso was recognized as the Sixth Dalai Lama after a delay of several years, allowing construction of the Potala Palace to be completed. he/she was an unconventional Dalai Lama who preferred the life of a Nyingma school yogi to that of an ordained monk. he/she was later kidnapped and deposed by Koshut Lha-Bazang Khan.

Live with girls, drink alcohol and spend the night in the streets

Tsangyang Gyatso had always rejected life as a monk. However this did not mean abdication of his/her position as Dalai Lama. Preferring to wear the clothes of a common man and walk on foot rather than riding a horse or using the state palanquin. Tsangyang retained only the temporal privileges of the Dalai Lama. he/she also visited parks and spent nights in the streets of Lhasa, drinking alcohol, singing songs and making out with girls.

China called and got him/her killed on the way

Tsangyang gave up his/her sermons in public parks and venues in 1702, which he/she was required to do as part of his/her training. In 1706 he/she was called to China. he/she died on the way to China. It is believed that on the instructions of the Kangxi Emperor of China, on the pretext of such behavior of the Dalai Lama, the Mongol general had killed the Regent of Tibet and kidnapped the Sixth Dalai Lama. It is also said that China considered him/her a big threat to itself and got him/her killed. Lithang-born Kelsang Gyatso became the seventh Dalai Lama after Tsangyang.

Sixth Dalai Lama is very popular in poems and songs

It is said that the Dalai Lama has either disappeared or been killed. The Sixth Dalai Lama is also known for his/her poems and songs which are popular not only in modern Tibet but also among Tibetan-speaking communities in Nepal, India, and throughout China.

Had predicted next birth in his/her poem

While being taken out of Tibet, Tsangyang wrote a poem which some say foretold his/her next life. ‘White Stork lend me your wings. I won’t fly far. I will return from Lithang. Tsangyang mysteriously disappeared near Qinghai on November 15, 1706. This is the reason why he/she has no mausoleum in the Potala Palace.

Regarding the Galwan Valley clash in 2020, he/she said that in 2020, Chinese soldiers came very close to Indian soldiers, after which many soldiers from both sides were killed.
