Shaheen was either ruled out or rested from eight of Pakistan’s last 12 Test matches from the beginning of 2024. Why are the selectors continuously ignoring Shaheen Afridi?

New Delhi. Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi’s son-in-law and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has not been selected in the team for the two-Test series against West Indies at home, putting his/her future in Test cricket in danger. Is. Shaheen was either ruled out or rested from eight of Pakistan’s last 12 Test matches from the beginning of 2024.

A source close to the selectors said that both Shaheen and Naseem are being prepared for the Champions Trophy. “The selectors want Shaheen and even Naseem to give their best in the Champions Trophy because it is a 50-over competition and we are the defending champions,” the source said.

Interestingly, the Pakistan Cricket Board had no hesitation in issuing NOC to Shaheen to play in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, while at the same time the Test series was going on in South Africa. The selectors also did not include fast bowlers Naseem Shah, Mir Hamza, Muhammad Abbas and Aamir Jamal in the team for the two Test matches against West Indies, whereas they were part of the team in the series played in South Africa. Pakistan had lost both the matches of this series.

Left arm fast bowler Shaheen has taken 116 wickets in 32 tests so far. he/she was also not selected in the team for the two-Test series against South Africa played on their soil. The selectors had then clarified that they wanted him/her to be fresh for the ICC Champions Trophy starting from February 19.
