Why are Congress and BJP at loggerheads over Trump? First Congress and now BJP is targeting him/her

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday appealed to opposition parties, especially the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, to refrain from using words that incite violence against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP cited the attack on former US President Donald Trump on July 13 and the assassination of Japanese leader Shinzo Abe in 2022. BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the assassination of Abe in July 2022 and the attempt to kill Trump were due to violent appeals made by political leaders in their speeches to fulfil their short-term political goals.

he/she accused the opposition leader in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, of using language that incites violence against Modi. “Violent words like ‘death’ and ‘digging graves’ have been used in the speeches of Congress leaders. Politics is one thing and inciting violence is another,” Trivedi said.

PM Modi mentioned the security lapse case
he/she referred to the security lapse during Modi’s Punjab visit in January 2022 when the prime minister was stuck on a flyover for about 20 minutes as a group of protesting farmers blocked a road to Ferozepur and the serial blasts at the rally of the then BJP prime ministerial candidate in October 2013. Trivedi said, ‘Modi and [रक्षा मंत्री और तत्कालीन भाजपा प्रमुख] Rajnath Singh was at the 2013 rally and both had Z+ level security when there was a Congress government at the Centre. This was a major security lapse on the part of the Congress government.’

‘Full attention was paid to Rahul Gandhi’s security’
he/she said the BJP government took the security of political leaders seriously and of importance. “When Rahul Gandhi visited Kashmir and Manipur, the routes were cleared and his/her security was taken care of,” Trivedi said. he/she said former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had used the term “maut ke saudagar” (merchant of death) against Modi in 2007 when he/she was the chief minister of Gujarat. “We did not use such words against Indira Gandhi even during the Emergency,” he/she said.

‘CBI and Intelligence appeared different in Ishrat Jahan case’
Trivedi said the CBI and the Intelligence Bureau were pitted against each other in the Ishrat Jahan case. he/she said this happened when the CBI changed its stand on Jahan’s terrorist identity. “The decision to change its stand was taken by the CBI because it was found that Jahan’s target was the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi,” Trivedi said.

he/she said, “Violent words like ‘death’ and ‘digging a grave’ have been used in the speeches of Congress leaders. We did not use such words even during the Emergency (in the 1970s) against Indira Gandhi. The decision to change its stand was taken by the CBI after it was found that the target was then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.”
