Who is Vijaya Rahatkar? Who is being made the chairperson of the National Women Commission

New Delhi: Vijaya Rahatkar has been made the new chairperson of the National Commission for Women. Rahatkar will be the 9th chairperson of NCW. Before this she had been the Chairperson of Maharashtra State Women Commission. he/she has been given this responsibility for his/her contribution and leadership in his/her social work. Let us tell you that the National Commission for Women is a constitutional body, which works to advance women’s rights. This includes reviewing the constitutional and legal safeguards for women.

Many special schemes started for women

Vijaya Rahatkar has led many political and social actions. As chairperson of Maharashtra State Commission for Women (2016-2021), she led initiatives like ‘Prajwala’ to link self-help groups with central government schemes like ‘Sakshma’ for acid attack victims and ‘Suhita’, a 24×7 helpline service for women. Led the initiatives. he/she also worked on legal reforms focusing on issues like POCSO, Anti-Triple Talaq Unit and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. She started digital literacy programs and started a publication called ‘Saad’ dedicated to women’s issues.

As mayor of Chaitrapati Sambhajinagar from 2007 to 2010, Rahatkar initiated several development projects related to study and infrastructure.

Honored with these awards

Rahatkar holds a graduation degree in Physics and a post-graduation degree in History from Pune University. She has written several books, including ‘Vidhilikhit’ and ‘Aurangabad: Leading to Wide Roads’ on women’s legal issues. Her contributions to women’s empowerment have earned her national recognition, including the National Law Award and a Savitribai Phule Award from the National Sahitya Parishad.
