Surgeon Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin took over as the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) on Tuesday. With this, she has become the first woman officer to command the DGAFMS. Has worked on many big positions

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that before taking over as the 46th DGAFMS, Sareen had held important positions such as DG Medical Services (Navy), DG Medical Services (Air), and Director and Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. Have worked. Directly responsible for the overall medical policy matters of the Armed Forces, Sarin is an alumnus of AFMC and joined the Armed Forces Medical Services in December 1985.

Sarin holds an MD degree in Radiodiagnosis from AFMC and Diplomate National Board degree in Radiation Oncology from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Additionally, he/she has also received training in Gamma Knife Surgery from the University of Pittsburgh.

Worked on administrative positions in 38 years of career

The Defense Ministry said, ‘In his/her career spanning 38 years, the Flag Officer has held prestigious academic and administrative positions, including Professor and Dean, Radiation Oncology, Army Hospital (R&R) and Command Hospital (Southern Command)/AFMC Pune, Commanding Officer, INHS Ashwini, Command Medical Officer comprises Southern and Western Naval Commands of the Indian Navy.

Also a member of the National Task Force

Sarin was recently appointed as a member of the National Task Force constituted by the Supreme Court to formulate safe working conditions and protocols for medical professionals. The ministry statement further said, ‘She has been at the forefront of motivating young women to join the armed forces and is a shining symbol for the government’s ‘Nari Shakti’ initiative.’
