Who is that umpire… whom PCB included in the selection committee for the first time?


New Delhi. Only a few hours had passed since the Pakistan cricket team lost to England and the PCB formed a new selection committee. Umpire Aleem Dar, who recently announced his/her retirement from umpiring, has also been included in this committee. Aleem Dar will now select the team along with former Test players Aaqib Javed, Azhar Ali and analyst Hasan Cheema. England defeated Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs in the Multan Test on the fifth and last day. Earlier, the Pakistani team had lost the two-Test series at the hands of Bangladesh. For the first time, PCB has given place to an umpire in its selection committee.

Former Test batsman Asad Shafiq is already in the committee, who was included after the resignation of Mohammad Yusuf. The PCB said all members would have voting rights but did not say whether head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie would also have voting rights in the committee. Aleem Dar had recently retired from international umpiring. 56-year-old Dar has umpired in 448 international matches, including matches of men’s and women’s cricket teams.

Aleem Dar’s umpiring career lasted 20 years. he/she had decided to leave umpiring after the end of Pakistan’s 2024-25 domestic season. Dar was part of the ICC’s elite umpire panel. he/she was included in the elite panel of ICC in the year 2003. Dar has won the ICC Umpire of the Year title three times in his/her career. PCB has made several changes in the National Selection Committee since last year under two different board chairmen.

These are the challenges before the new selection committee of PCB
The first task of the new selection committee of PCB will be to select the team for the remaining two Test matches against England, after which Pakistan’s limited overs team will be selected for the upcoming series to be played in Australia and South Africa. Dar did not play any international match but he/she has played 17 first class matches. During this period, he/she has 270 runs in his/her name while taking 11 wickets with leg break bowling.
