Who is Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi? he/she will now be in command of the army

New Delhi: Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi will be the next Army Chief. he/she will replace the current Army Chief General Manoj Pandey. his/her name was announced by the government on Tuesday night. General Pandey will retire on June 30. The government has followed the seniority order in the appointment of Lieutenant General Dwivedi. A few days ago, the government had extended General Pandey’s tenure for a month before his/her retirement. General Pandey was to retire earlier on May 31. The Defense Ministry said that the government has appointed Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, currently serving as Deputy Army Chief, as the next Army Chief from June 30. ➤ Born on July 1, 1964, Lieutenant General Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa. he/she joined the 18-Jammu Kashmir Rifles of the Indian Army on December 15, 1984. Later he/she took command of the unit.

➤ Lieutenant General Dwivedi took over as Vice Chief of Army Staff on February 19. Before taking over as Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Dwivedi was serving as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command from 2022-2024.

➤ Lieutenant General Dwivedi has extensive experience of serving on the borders with China and Pakistan. he/she is currently serving as the Deputy Army Chief.

➤ The new Army Chief of the country has experience of fighting against terrorism. he/she has great experience of working on the northern and western borders. he/she also has expertise in operations dealing with insurgency in the North Eastern states.

➤ The new Army Chief has also been involved in the modernization process of the army. he/she played an important role in incorporating indigenous weapons in the army under Make in India.

➤ Upendra Dwivedi is an alumnus of the National Defence College and the US Army War College. he/she has also completed courses from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the Army War College, Mhow. he/she holds an M Phil in Defence and Management Studies and two master’s degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science.

➤ Upendra Dwivedi was commissioned into the Indian Army Infantry (Jammu and Kashmir Rifles) on 15 December 1984. During his/her long service of 40 years, Lieutenant Dwivedi has served in various command, staff, instructional and foreign appointments.
