Who is Justice Yashwant Verma whose heavy cash received from home, why SC Collegium recommended transfer

New Delhi : Justice Yashwant Verma of Delhi High Court will be transferred back to Allahabad High Court. The Supreme Court collegium, led by CJI Sanjeev Khanna of the country, took this decision after a huge amount of cash was found in his/her official bungalow last week. A large quantity of cash was recovered after the building caught fire. Emergency services were called by the judge’s family members. After this, the police was also called. According to media reports, the incident occurred during the Holi ceremony on 14 March. At that time Justice was out of his/her house.

Who is Justice Yashwant Verma

Justice Yashwant Verma was born on 6 January 1969 in Allahabad. he/she earned a B.Com Honors degree from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. Yashwant Verma graduated in law from Rewa University in 1992. This was followed by an Advocate on August 08, 1992. Advocate Yashwant Verma advocated mainly civil cases handling various types of cases related to constitutional, industrial dispute, corporate, taxation, environment and law related branches of law. By 2006, Justice Yashwant Verma was also a special lawyer of the Allahabad High Court till Yashwant Verma.

Judge was made in Delhi High Court in 2021

Yashwant Verma was the Chief Permanent Advocate of the state of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to August 2013. he/she was then nominated as Senior Advocate on behalf of the court. he/she was promoted as an additional judge on 13 October 2014. he/she was sworn in as a Permanent Judge on 01 February 2016. On October 11, 2021, he/she was transferred to Delhi High Court.

There was pressure on the judiciary to take action

Finding unaccounted cash at a judge’s house is a rare and serious matter. There was now pressure on the judiciary to maintain their honesty and take quick and decisive action to maintain their honesty. The collegium recommended the transfer but some members expressed concern that it could not be enough to maintain judicial honesty. There were suggestions that Justice Verma should resign and if he/she refused, an internal investigation should be initiated by Parliament as an initial step towards possible expulsion.
