Who is Dnyanesh Kumar who became the new Chief Election Commissioner of the country, named under the chairmanship of PM Modi

New Delhi: The next Chief Election Commissioner of the country will be Dnyanesh Kumar. The selection committee headed by PM Modi on Monday held a meeting to finalize the name of the new CEC. Dnyanesh Kumar will replace the current Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. Rajiv Kumar is retiring on Tuesday i.e. 18 February. Earlier on Monday night, the Law Ministry issued a notice and announced the name of the new Election Commissioner.

Who is Dnyanesh Kumar?

Gyanesh Kumar, a 1988 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, was still looking at the responsibility of Election Commissioner. he/she was the first secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation and retired on 31 January 2024. Kumar has been involved in important decisions like removal of Article 370. he/she has also worked in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Overall, Kumar has a long and influential administrative career.

Ram was also associated with the temple case

Kumar’s role was very important during Article 370 removal. In August 2019, he/she was the Joint Secretary of Kashmir Division in the Ministry of Home Affairs. During this, he/she worked with Home Minister Amit Shah. Their contribution in resolving this sensitive case is considered important. This is a proof of their administrative ability. In 2020, Dnyanesh Kumar was made Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. he/she was given the responsibility of all matters related to the Ayodhya case. It also included the formation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust. All the work after the Supreme Court’s decision was done under his/her supervision. This was another important role that he/she successfully played.

Decision in committee headed by PM Modi

Explain that a three -member selection committee meeting was held under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office at South Block. PM Modi attended the meeting of the selection committee, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah nominated by the Prime Minister.
