Who is Devjeet? Who was made the interim secretary of BCCI, Jai Shahwala will work

New Delhi. Devjit Saikia has been made the acting secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). he/she was appointed to this post by Board President Roger Binny. Saikia will replace Jai Shah, who recently took over as the new president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Hailing from Assam, Saikia is a former first-class cricketer. he/she was currently working on the post of Joint Secretary of BCCI. Binny, using his/her constitutional powers, has appointed Saikia as the acting secretary. This is a temporary arrangement under BCCI rules until the permanent secretary is appointed. It is understood that Saikia will continue in this post till September next year. And after this the secretary will be appointed permanently.

Jay Shah took charge as ICC President on December 1, 2024. he/she is the fifth Indian to lead this global organization. 36-year-old Shah was appointed as BCCI Secretary for the last five years. Shah replaced New Zealand’s Greg Barclay at the ICC, who was not interested in continuing for a third consecutive term.

Devjit Saikya’s cricket career
Devajit Saikia was born in 1969 in Guwahati. he/she became the Joint Secretary of BCCI in 2019. Ganguly was the President when Saikia became the Joint Secretary of the Indian Board. he/she got a chance to play for the Assam team in the CK Nayudu Trophy in 1984. he/she remained a part of Assam Under-19 team till 1989. he/she has also played for East Zone with former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly.

Devjit Saikia played Ranji for Assam as a wicketkeeper.
Devjit Saikia made his/her Ranji Trophy debut for Assam in 1991 as a wicketkeeper. Devjit left professional cricket at the age of 21 and focused on studies. After completing his/her master’s degree in Economics, he/she took a law degree and became a lawyer. Saikia has represented India in the Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup.
