Who is Ashok Tanwar? Who left BJP and joined Congress two days before Haryana elections, changed party for the fourth time in 5 years

New Delhi: BJP has suffered a major setback two days before the Haryana Assembly elections. Senior BJP leader and former MP from Haryana Ashok Tanwar joined Congress at Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Mahendragarh district on Thursday. As Gandhi was concluding his/her speech, an announcement was made from the stage asking the audience to wait for a few minutes. Immediately after this Tanwar came on stage and it was announced that ‘today he/she has returned home.’ Tanwar had joined BJP earlier this year.

Left Congress in 2019

Tanwar had left the party in 2019 following differences with senior Congress leader Bhupendra Singh Hooda. he/she joined the party hours before the campaign for the Haryana Assembly elections to be held on October 5 ended at 6 pm. Tanwar was once considered close to Rahul Gandhi. The return of Dalit community leader Tanwar to Congress is likely to strengthen the party.

Tanwar has also been in AAP and TMC

Tanwar, a former president of Congress’s Haryana unit, shook hands with Gandhi and greeted Hooda, who welcomed him/her into the party and patted him/her on the back. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal was also present on the stage. Tanwar joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in April 2022. Before joining AAP, he/she had also been in Trinamool Congress for some time.

Congress may get benefit

The return of a Dalit leader to Congress is likely to strengthen the party. The Congress is hoping to return to power in the state after a decade. Former Haryana Congress President Tanwar shook hands with Rahul Gandhi. he/she also greeted Bhupendra Singh Hooda.
