In Indian cricket too, many players are known by their nicknames. One of them is Shikhar Dhawan. Team India’s left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan is known as ‘Gabbar’ among fellow players. But the biggest question is how this friendly cricketer’s name got associated with one of Bollywood’s most famous villains. Dhawan openly told about this in an interview that who called him/her by this nickname first.

Shikhar Dhawan, who announced his/her retirement from all forms of cricket on Saturday (August 24), had said in an interview, ‘I was playing a Ranji Trophy match. I was fielding at silly point then. When there was a big partnership between the batsmen of the opposition team, my teammates started getting disappointed. Then I shouted, ‘Bahut yaarana hai sugar ke bachche’, after which everyone started laughing. At that time, our Ranji team coach was Vijay Dahiya. he/she named me Gabbar from there. This nickname of mine became so famous that people started knowing me by this name.’ In those days, Dhawan had dialogues from the film Sholay on his/her tongue. During the match, he/she used to speak more dialogues of Sholay’s villain Gabbar Amjad Khan. To break the concentration of the batsmen, he/she used to speak this dialogue of Sholay a lot.
