While folding his/her hands, he/she bowed his/her entire neck… Emotional picture of CJI DY Chandrachud on his/her ‘last working day’

New Delhi: Today was the ‘last working day’ of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. However, his/her tenure is ending on November 10. But due to Supreme Court holiday on 9th and 10th November, his/her last working day became today itself. Justice Sanjeev Khanna will now be the next CJI of the country. CJI Chandrachud gave an important judgment on the minority status of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on the last day of his/her tenure. The bench of 7 judges headed by him/her upheld the minority status of AMU with a majority of 4-3. A picture of CJI DY Chandrachud on the ‘last working day’ is viral on social media. In this picture, he/she is seen with his/her head completely bowed and his/her hands folded. This picture is quite emotional. he/she was given a formal farewell in the Supreme Court today. On this occasion, many lawyers including Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal addressed the CJI through online streaming and remembered his/her contribution to the judiciary. Justice Chandrachud said in his/her last speech in the court, ‘If I have ever hurt anyone, I apologize.’ On the last day of Justice Chandrachud, many lawyers also spent some light moments with him/her.

CJI Chandrachud is a witness to many historical decisions

CJI Chandrachud’s tenure lasted for about two years, which witnessed many historic decisions. These decisions include the decision on Ram temple in Ayodhya, rejection of electoral bonds, leaving the decision on gay marriage to Parliament, declaring the removal of Article 370 as constitutional and the decision on the rights of Delhi government.
