New Delhi : Good news has emerged regarding greenery in the country. According to the report, the total forest and tree area of ​​the country has increased by 1,445 square kilometers since 2021 and now it is 25.17 percent of the total geographical area. This information was given in the new government figures. The India State Forest Report (ISFR) 2023 released on Saturday said that the total forest area of ​​the country was 7,13,789 square kilometers in 2021, which increased to 7,15,343 square kilometers in 2023, hence now 21.76 percent of the total geographical area. There is a forest area.

Tree area increased by 1,289 square kilometers

The report said tree cover has increased by 1,289 square kilometers and now accounts for 3.41 percent of the country’s geographical area. Overall, the area of ​​forests and trees is 8,27,357 square kilometers, i.e. 25.17 percent of India’s geographical area is covered with forests and trees. This represents a total increase of 1,445 square kilometers after 2021, with forest area alone increasing by 156 square kilometers.

Most forests in Madhya Pradesh

According to the report, Madhya Pradesh leads in total forest and tree cover, followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Maharashtra. Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan recorded the highest increase in forest and tree cover, while Mizoram, Gujarat and Odisha especially saw the highest increase in forest cover. The North-Eastern states, especially Mizoram, have seen significant improvements. Mizoram alone saw an increase of 242 square kilometers in forest area.
