Climate change is showing effect
Experts are calling the Los Angeles fire a side effect of climate change. The gases released by the burning of oil, coal and gas, which heat the earth, have made forest fires more dangerous. Due to climate change, the start of the fall/winter rainy season in California has been delayed. Los Angeles is facing rain shortage since July 2024. The area is facing its second worst drought in 150 years. Similarly, the average rainfall in Southern California has declined by 10 percent since October 1. Strong winds are blowing at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour at many places. These conditions have made the fire more severe. High winds are common in Los Angeles this time of year, but dry weather and climate change are making wildfires more dangerous.

There was devastation in Uttarakhand also
The kind of devastation that America is facing now, a similar devastation took place in India last year also. There was a fire in the forests of Uttarakhand in April 2024. The fire kept burning in the forests of Almora for 41 days. 10 people had died. Hundreds of acres of forest were destroyed. According to a PTI report dated May 6, 2024, a total of 575 incidents of fire were recorded in the forests of Uttarakhand from November 1, 2023 to May 5, 2024, affecting an area of about 690 hectares i.e. 1705 acres. Not only was climate change one of the reasons for the fire, human negligence also played a big role.

There was a massive fire in the forests of Uttarakhand in 2016 also. Then between April and May, about 1600 fire incidents were recorded. 4538 hectares i.e. 11213 acres of forest was destroyed.

According to Forest Survey of India, about 36 percent of India’s forest area is extremely sensitive to fire.
