When will the air train start for Delhi Airport, then the deadline increased

New Delhi: The proposed air train work at Delhi Airport is underway slow. Dial has extended the last date for submission of EOI for this essential project by one month more. This project is already running late. The new last date is 16 April 2025. This has been done at the request of those who show interest in this project. Many companies have shown interest in this automated Peepal Mover (APM). This APM is necessary to create India’s first truly hub to Delhi Airport.

Passengers face problems at the airport

Right now traveling between terminal 1 and terminal 2-3, about 7 km away, is a major problem for passengers taking connecting flights. How will the Dial transit make the journey easier until an air train is built? Dial CEO Videha Kumar Jaipuriar recently said, “We are increasing the number of buses running between T3/2 and T1. Apart from DTC, other companies will also run buses. The check-in backage airside of passengers taking connecting flights on the same PNR (same airline or group) will be transferred. There will be a lounge from where they will be able to take a coupon to board the transfer bus. “

Expected to start by March 2028

According to the advisory issued by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority for determining tariffs from Delhi Airport for tariff determination from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2029, “APM is already in the bidding stage … It is expected to be operational by March 2028. It will run from T1 to T3 and T3 to T1. The frequency will be increased from 80,000 to 90,000 passengers per day. APM will be free for passengers, while the rest of the passengers will have to pay for it. “

Skywalk proposal at cargo station

The 7.7 km route of the proposed air train will be around 75% or 5.7 km elevated and 2 km at the ground level. The ground level part will be in two places – just before the T1 and cross the main runway and then under the elevated taxiway. The rest will be elevated, a skywalk is proposed to connect the cargo terminal at the cargo station. Dial has decided not to create an underground section to avoid increasing costs.

How much will cost cost?

The average cost of elevated metro lines in India is Rs 250-300 crore, the ground level is Rs 150-200 crore and Rs 500-600 crore for underground. This includes all costs including train, signal, electrical and civil work. Based on these data, it can be estimated that the cost of air train can be up to Rs 1,500-1,600 crore. In Modi 2.0, the Union Ministry of Aviation did not allow the airport operator to charge additional fees from the passengers for the project and asked him/her to first make it and then charge it.
