When Western music program was done in Akashvani… Have you seen the video of CJI speaking Sanskrit?


New Delhi: Do you know that the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud was once a presenter on All India Radio (AIR). CJI Chandrachud himself mentioned this in a special interview given to All India Radio. In an interview with AIR he/she recalled his/her days as a radio presenter. he/she told how he/she grew up listening to AIR bulletins in Hindi, English and Sanskrit with his/her parents. Ultimately he/she himself became a part of Akashvani.

Recalling his/her childhood, Supreme Court Chief Justice Chandrachud told how he/she used to be mesmerized by listening to the famous voices of news presenters. he/she repeated the lines spoken in the voice of Devki Nandan Pandey that ‘This is Akashvani; Now you listen to the news from Devki Nandan Pandey. he/she also praised the melodious voices of Pamela Singh and Lotika Ratnam, and recalled their introduction, ‘This is All India Radio; The news is read by Lotika Ratnam.’

Speaking about his/her association with All India Radio (AIR), CJI Chandrachud mentioned many things about his/her mother. he/she told that my mother, who was a classical musician. When I was in third or fourth class, she would often take me to her studio in Mumbai. Later, when he/she came to Delhi in 1975, he/she auditioned for All India Radio. Then started presenting programs in both Hindi and English.

CJI told how he/she became a presenter in Akashvani

CJI Chandrachud said, ‘I have a personal association with All India Radio. My mother was a classical musician, so I have accompanied my mother to studios in Mumbai. I was in third or fourth grade at that time. When I came to Delhi in 1975, I was told that I could audition for All India Radio. Then I auditioned and started doing programs in both Hindi and English.

CJI mentioned his/her unique relationship with AIR

CJI Chandrachud said that I remember that I used to do a lot of programs in Hindi. I still remember my first program very well. I also used to program western music for All India Radio in those days. he/she further explained how he/she used to host western music shows for AIR during that time. In this way, he/she formed a unique relationship with this iconic broadcaster.
