When the fund which was stuck for 4-5 years was released in one meeting itself, E Sreedharan told the story related to Manmohan Singh

Author: E. Sridharan
I have some very good memories with Dr. Manmohan Singh. In 1994, when he/she was the Finance Minister and I was the Chairman of Konkan Railway Corporation, for 4-5 years we were not released the equity received from the Central Government, which was about Rs 400 crore. One day I gathered courage and went to his/her office in Parliament House to meet him/her. When I told them that we are not getting money for a long time, they got angry and said that you people first make a project and then take funds for it, but the work is not completed on time, due to which the cost keeps increasing. The government suffers loss. I am against it, hence will not give the money. Then I explained to him/her in detail about the importance of Konkan Railway Project and how this project can make a huge contribution to the economic development of the country. It was also told that we are laying the railway line through such a difficult area and what challenges we are facing.

Professor, RBI Governor, Finance Minister, PM… Manmohan Singh’s CV should surprise even the elders.
You seem a little serious to me…

I told him/her that this project should not stop and you will have to fund it. he/she smiled and said that you seem a little serious to me. If you promise that the project will be completed within the stipulated time frame and estimated cost, I can provide funds. I promised and he/she immediately called the officials and instructed them to release the funds. We were also successful in fulfilling our promise and completed the project within the stipulated cost in 7 years.

Delhi Metro story
Similarly, when he/she was the Prime Minister, many important lines of Delhi Metro were opening. he/she inaugurated the first underground section of the metro between University and Kashmere Gate in December 2004. After that, in December 2005 also, the longest section of metro between Barakhamba and Dwarka was started.

presswire18 TimesOne habit of Manmohan Singh saved him/her from the tsunami tragedy, know that story
he/she was very happy to see the progress of Delhi Metro and whenever he/she came, he/she would buy tickets himself and travel in the metro. he/she was against free travel and used our example to ask other ministries to adopt the work culture of Delhi Metro and work with the same passion. he/she was a very kind hearted person. he/she had very good ideas and a big vision for the development of the country, but due to many reasons he/she could not work the way he/she wanted.
