Sachin Tendulkar played the last match of his/her career in 2013.
New Delhi. Wankhede Stadium, which has witnessed many memorable matches of international cricket, has completed 50 years. On this occasion, many stalwarts including current captain Rohit Sharma, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar were invited to the grand function of Mumbai Cricket Association. On this special occasion, Master Blaster Sachin shared his/her memorable anecdote related to Wankhede. he/she told that he/she had to play the last match of his/her career on this very ground for which he/she had made a special request to the BCCI.
Sachin Tendulkar said that he/she had experienced similar emotions while playing his/her last Test against West Indies in 2013, which is difficult to put into words. he/she said, “When the schedule of the series against West Indies was announced, I called N Srinivasan (then BCCI President) and requested if the second and last match of the series could be played at Wankhede because I wanted it to be played at Wankhede. Let my mother see me play my last match.
he/she said, “My mother had never come to the stadium before and seen me playing. At that time her health was such that she could not leave Wankhede and go to any other place. BCCI very graciously accepted that request and my mother and the entire family were at Wankhede that day. Today when I step into Wankhede, I am experiencing the same feelings.
Tendulkar said that India had won the World Cup on this ground after reaching the ODI World Cup final in 2003. he/she said about being carried around the field by his/her fellow players after winning the World Cup, “There is no doubt that it was the best moment of my life.”
