The year 2022 was in the name of wheat inflation. The price which was around Rs 1800 a quintal last year has touched Rs 3000 this year. But next year is going to bring news of relief. This good news has come from the farms of India. The area sown to wheat has increased by 3.18 per cent to 312.26 lakh hectare (ha) in the current rabi (winter) season so far.
This information has been given in the data of the Ministry of Agriculture released on Friday. Agriculture Secretary Manoj Ahuja said that the prospects of the crop are good as the prevailing weather is quite favorable for plant growth and better yield. Sowing of the main rabi (winter) crop, wheat, begins in October while harvesting takes place in April. Mustard and gram are the other major crops to be sown in the rabi season of 2022-23 crop year (July-June).
According to the ministry’s data, wheat has been sown in 312.26 lakh hectare till December 23 in the current rabi season, as against 302.61 lakh hectare in the year-ago period. “Thus, 9.65 lakh hectares more area has been brought under wheat cultivation as compared to last year,” the ministry said.
