Whatsapp Notes Ban: Ban on studying through WhatsApp! Sharing of notes is banned in this state, know why?

Restrictions on online social media: Students in Kerala will no longer be able to share study notes on WhatsApp. Regarding this decision, the Kerala Education Department believes that studies should be done in the classroom, not on mobile. It is clearly mentioned in this order that neither notes can be sent on social media nor can they be printed. Higher Secondary Academic Joint Director Suresh Kumar said that the regional deputy director will inspect the school to see if the rules are being followed or not.

This decision has been taken after the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic has ended. Online classes were held during the closure of schools. Although online classes were helpful at that time, parents complained to the Child Rights Commission about its many adverse effects. After this, the education department reconsidered it.

Now, principals of higher secondary schools have been instructed to stop teachers from distributing notes through digital platforms and encourage students to adopt more traditional methods of learning.

Why handwritten notes are better:

Writing by hand requires active engagement with the subject matter whereas typing can be a passive activity. Writing forces you to think more critically about the information. Writing by hand engages multiple senses – sight, touch and even the subtle sound of pen on paper – creating stronger neural pathways.

Additionally, handwritten notes offer more creative freedom than typing. One of the biggest benefits of handwriting is the ability to focus without constant interruptions from digital notifications. Handwritten notes provide a personalized learning experience and a much-needed break from digital overload.
