What is the situation of Muslims in India changing? These things were revealed in the new report

New Delhi: A new report has come out about the Muslims of India. This report mentions the government’s positive policies and schemes for Muslims. This report also presents future roadmaps. This report, named ‘Rithinking Afformers Action for Muslims in Contemporary India’, was published last month. This is the first such comprehensive policy document in the last 10 years. The report discusses the socio-economic status of the Muslim community, the development of government policies and the way forward.

Study on the status of Muslims

According to the study, the government has noticed the problem of backwardness of the Muslim community. How did this problem become a policy issue? How has the government’s approach changed over time? In June 2006, the UPA government approved the Prime Minister’s 15 -utial program for minorities. Its purpose was to introduce minority-centric policies and plans. Earlier in January, a new Minority Affairs Ministry was formed apart from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Improvement programs going on for several decades

Earlier, in October 2004, the National Religious and Linguistic Minorities Commission (Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission) and in March 2005 the government appointed a high -level committee (Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee) on the social, economic and educational status of the Muslim community of India. The Sachar Committee, which submitted its report in 2006 and the Ranganath Mishra Commission, which submitted its report in 2007, strongly recommended that Muslims should be considered as a marginalized community.

Socio-economic uplift policy

Over time, the government took several policy initiatives for the socio-economic upliftment of Muslim communities. In 2013, the Sachar-Bad Value Assessment Committee was formed under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru University Professor Amitabh Kundu to evaluate the Sachar Committee report and the Prime Minister’s new 15-point program implementation. This committee submitted its report in 2014.

BJP government gave the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’

That year, the BJP -led NDA government, which came to power, adopted the ideal of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas for the social inclusion of all groups and communities. This made significant changes in the policy structure and reorganized the existing programs and schemes headed by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. In the subsequent policy structure since 2014, Muslim empowerment is not considered as a special concern. The framework of positive action, especially in relation to Muslim communities in India, cannot be understood without analyzing the government’s policy priorities and welfare approaches.

The new report is four comprehensive topics of assessing positive action for Muslims in contemporary India.

  1. It examines the changing nature of the state and its official outlook on social welfare, using the word ‘Charitable State’ to describe these changes.
  2. It mainly talks about contemporary policy structures and its benefits for Muslims by seriously associated with official documents published by NITI Aayog.
  3. It surveys the educational and economic status of Muslim communities by analyzing the official data collected from several sources.
  4. It investigates the perceptions, expectations, aspirations and concerns about Muslims, using CSDS-Lokniti collection data, their socio-economic backwardness and marginality.

What is the educational situation of Muslims?

According to the report, children of Muslim families have the lowest chances of admission in higher education. However, the participation of Muslim children in the field of higher education has increased in recent years. The participation of Muslim youth after secondary level is the lowest in all socio-religious groups (SRGs). Graduation is low in Muslims. In terms of access to private school education, Muslim students are slightly better than Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. However, they are far behind the Hindu Savarna and Hindu Other Backward Classes.

How is the situation of Muslims in terms of employment?

As such, there is a problem of employment across the country. But the status of Muslims in this case is stated in the report. According to the report, there has been no significant change in the condition of Muslims in terms of employment. However, for access to regular salaried jobs, high level of education helps Muslims to catch with others. But in terms of access to big businesses, Muslims are far behind.

What suggestions to deal with this situation?

The report has also made some suggestions to get Muslims out of backwardness. According to the study, an active policy should be prepared, in which Muslims are represented unevenly. Arrangement of a policy package that makes provision to advance and modernize small -scale enterprises. Focus should be done on skill development by giving training. A system should be installed to remove exploitation by traders. A large number of Muslims can be helped through these measures, which can have many positive effects on their lives.
